BACKGROUND
Halfway Home Animal Rescue Inc is a registered charity, founded in 2008.
Our key focus is to reduce suffering and save lives. We save homeless animals from death row and through our foster care program we provide safe, temporary homes while loving permanent homes are found. We also provide all required medical treatment and other special care.
With access to highly credentialed animal behaviour consultants, we are able to assess the needs of companion animals, treat them as needed, and find the most suitable homes.
We also specialise in animals with special needs, behavioural issues, and elderly animals as well as nursing many through palliative care.
SITUATION & MISSION
Many people believe that when animals end up in a shelter or pound, they are safe and will be adopted. This sadly, is far from reality. Of the animals not reclaimed by owners, only the youngest and healthiest are put up for adoption by most pounds and shelters. The rest are generally killed.
Unfortunately rescue organisations have very limited access to these animals on death row. Even members of the public who find lost animals and take them to a shelter have no right to adopt that animal should the owner not come forward. In some cases a pound or shelter will allow this but they are not bound to and many simply won't do it. Many such animals are put down despite the 'finder' trying to register their interest. This is distressing for many people whose intention in bringing an animal to a pound or shelter was to save that animal.
Our mission is to save as many animals from needless death as we can, while promoting no-kill philosophies. We aim to keep animals out of the shelter / pound system. We believe every animal deserves a happy life free of suffering, neglect and abuse. We do whatever it takes to make this happen for the animals who come into our care.
