Here are some updates from families who have adopted from Halfway Home Animal Rescue...
Harrison
On deathrow and out of time. This boy was the quietest, most well mannered and loving boy to stay in care. He is so good you wondered who lost him? They must be devastated?? Harrison (and the rest of them) didn't deserve to be left to rot in the pound system. He is a very well balanced, healthy trained dog.
"Harrison's GREAT! He's settled in to our home very nicely. It hasn't even been 6 months since you brought him over, but we can't imagine life without him. He's exactly what we were looking for in a dog. Great with the kids, gentle with everyone, doesn't jump or bark and very well behaved... Except when he eats his bed, or my work boots, or the hose, or digs fifteen holes to bury one bone, or gets up onto the wood pile and flings wood everywhere!
It probably took him a couple of weeks to settle in but we made sure to make him feel at home. Now, we know that after his breakfast/dinner he likes to run around like an idiot for ten minutes and this is normal for him. We know that when we first see him (in the morning/when we get home) he'll yawn with a little song in it. The kids love it and think he's funny.
I've never known a dog that is so friendly to other dogs and people. He especially loves meeting and playing with other dogs (it's his favourite thing). He's got two girlfriends!!! Harrison loves to come with us everywhere, as soon as you open the car door, he's in! We both thought we would leave him outside at night but don't things change? He has his spot inside (near the fire) in his bed and I've even caught him being let in during the day when it gets a bit cold. What a big softy she is! This week the PVC blinds are being installed around our pergola to cut out the cold wind, i suspect that wouldn't be happening if we didn't have you-know-who."
Digby
Digby was on deathrow in a regional pound and we knew he was doomed if we didn't take hime. We're glad we did because t
alk about BIG and SOOKY! He's energetic and a real character. He just wants to please.
"Thanks so much for our new family member. Digby has settled into the family so much better than we ever could have hoped.
He has made himself very much at home here and is a very happy pooch enjoying playing in and exploring our acre plus yard."
Millie
After a strange phone call and a breakdown in communication, Millie was offered to us as her "owner" had come to Australia to study then went back home to Japan and left Millie with her room mates. They didn't want her either. She is such a happy, friendly and entertaining girl.
"Attaching a photo of Millie, who is just thriving. She's the best dog I've ever had. I just adore her and I adore that she loves kids. She makes a beeline for them and just loves to be around the fun, especially if it's in the pool. She plays soccer with my nephews and it's hilarious. She's just fantastic - and very popular. Keep up the good work"
Thomas
This boy was on deathrow in a regional pound in Victoria. He came to us severely matted and timid and quite depressed. After a good clean up and wash he finally looked like a dog again. He slowly blossomed and is now a happy go lucky boy.
Thomas' new Mum sent an email on his behalf...
"It's been three months since I moved in to my new home. At first it was a little scary, but now I am a part of the furniture and love it here. My good looks and puppy dog eyes get me lots of cuddles and tummy rubs from everyone. I'm sometimes allowed on the couch for a warm snuggle with my new mum and she even allows me on the bed first thing in the morning for a quick cuddle before getting up. It's a great routine I have to say!
I have become great buddies with 9 year old 'Bull Arab' Max and we get taken for walks around the local lake and parks and even go down to the beach to explore. I sometimes get so excited by what I smell and see that I often don't hear my parents calling for me, but Max is always close by and keeps me in line. Max and I love to play and chase each other, particularly around the house. We now have a new kennel outside and it's big enough for both of us to share when it gets really cold. Thanks dad!
As you can see from the picture, I've just had a bath and am very fluffy. My mum often cuts the hair around my eyes so I can see, but I'll soon get to the hair dressers for a better trim!"
Kitt
This little girl was born in care after her Mum was taken in. Kitt was accompanied by three sisters and they all found brilliant homes. Her Mum is still looking due to having FIV but Mia (her Mum) is gorgeous and deserves a new home as great as Kitt's.
"Kitt has cerainly come a long way. She is certainly one of us. I have to congratulate you on the great work you are doing with all the animals you love so much so here is a new photo of Kitt."
Chloe & Jamie
These girls came to us after we received a call from a concerned vet in regional Victoria. Both girls had been used as breeding machines and were taken to the vet to be killed (euthanized) because they were of no longer use. They were six years old and the most affectionate friendly little girls we had met. Both girls needed medical treatment - one for Dry Eye and the other had mammary tumours removed. Jamie would horde all her soft toys in her bed and lovingly lick them - probably reminded her of all the babies taken from her and sold in petshops!
"Both girls have really blossomed over the past few months.
They answer to their names and no longer need to be in visual range of other to feel secure. They love their walks in the park and go ballistic when I get home in anticipation. The are happy to sleep together but more often than not they sleep with me and Ian; Jamie is my second pillow and Chloe is my secondary cuddle mate. Chloe and Jamie love chasing each other or running after the Cockatoos. Their cuddly toys barely get touched these days. Thanks, HWH for my little girls and the joy and happiness they bring me daily. I will definitely keep in touch and send you updated pictures of my four-footed family."
